The Humane Society of Canada has always been opposed to all animal fighting.

NFL player, Michael Vick, has not, and will never be a spokesman for our organization.

More specifically, in a 2007 interview with Maclean's magazine, The Humane Society of Canada’s Chairman & CEO, Michael O’Sullivan said in part:

“Can anybody tell me the names of the fifty dogs that were involved? It’s all been about Michael Vick. I think that this guy – rightly or wrongly – has become the poster child for dogfighting, but in my opinion if nobody can tell me the names of the dogs that suffered, then we’re focusing too much attention on Michael Vick and not enough on the dogs that he mistreated.”

sharkAugust 11, 2009, VANCOUVER – The Humane Society of Canada (HSC) is hoping that a $1000 reward being offered through their Victims of Cruelty Program will help to bring to justice the man depicted in a Youtube video smashing a mud shark against the deck of a fishing boat and then hurling it overboard somewhere off the BC coast. The reward is for information resulting in the conviction of those responsible for harming the shark which the man in the video describes as a “mud shark beat down”.
