VANCOUVER, DECEMBER 24/2015 - As families have for more than 50 years, children and their parents eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa and his reindeer can watch them as they travel around the world spreading joy and Christmas cheer relying on the high tech folks at NORAD The Humane Society of Canada (HSC).  “That wonderful bond between Santa, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and of course Rudolph reminds us once of that special age old bond between people and animals, “ says HSC Chairman & CEO, Michael O’Sullivan.

Family, friends, parties, decorations, food. Christmas can be a wonderful time of year. However, many of the same things that make the holiday season an enjoyable time for humans, make it a dangerous time for household pets and larger animals such as horses.

While it is obvious to most people, The Humane Society of Canada (HSC) is once again reminding the public that animal companions are sentient beings who should not be given as presents at Christmas - or any other time. Every time HSC Executive Director Michael O’Sullivan hears of someone giving a pet as a present, his blood starts to boil.

siameseshepherdsmallVANCOUVER, NOVEMBER 29/2011 - With Christmas and the Holidays just around the corner, The Humane Society of Canada (HSC) is urging people to find out if the company they work for has a Matching Gift Program that can double their donation to  help animals.

"Sometimes, a person will have worked for a company for a number of years without realizing that their employer will match their kindness and generosity, dollar for dollar, meaning we can help even more animals at risk," explains, Al Hickey, HSC Western Regional Director.

To make it easier for people to check, The Humane Society of Canada, has a directory of companies in Canada and the United States which can be found here. Canadians living and working in the United States, along with Canadian employed by American companies here in Canada can also donate through a matching gift program.

The animal charity is also asking people to encourage their employer to set up a Matching Gift Program if they don't already have one, and can give them tips and guidelines on how to do this.  If a person needs help with finding their company, they can contact The Humane Society of Canada toll free by calling 1-800-641-KIND (5463) or writing to This email address is being protected from spambots.
