World Faces Impending Wildlife Collapse New Report Suggests

Created: 27 October 2016

A new report has found that the continued destruction of habitat, deforestation, overfishing, hunting, climate change and pollution around the world are staging a mass extinction of wildlife globally. Animal populations between 1970 and 2012 have decreased by 58% and are projected to reach 67% by 2020. Such a staggering loss of wildlife has not occurred for millions of years on planet Earth and the effects could be devastating to the long-term biodiversity of the planet. The report warns that without swift action, 7 of 10 animals will vanish in 50 years with extinction rates currently 100 times their natural level. Click here to read the full story.

Scientists and public officials place part of the blame on human-induced climate change. Read the full story here.
