Alaska Sea Otters Gain 5,855 Square Miles of Habitat Protection
Environmental News Network, Oct 8, 2009 - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Wednesday designated 5,855 square miles of nearshore waters along the Aleutian Islands, Bering Sea, and Alaska Peninsula as critical habitat for threatened sea otters in southwest Alaska.

World will miss 2010 target on biodiversity, experts warn Tuesday

If the intensity and speed of overfishing continues at the current rate the balance are heading for eventual commercial collapse.

Purina Mills Undertakes Limited Recall of Strategy® Horse Feed and Layena® Poultry Feed
Purina Mills, LLC, is voluntarily recalling two specific lots of 50-pound bags of Strategy® Professional Formula GX horse feed and one lot of Layena® SunFresh® Recipe Pellet poultry feed. The recall is being implemented due to the discovery of metal fragments in a limited number of bags from one of the Strategy® product lots.
The products being recalled were manufactured in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 24-25, 2010. They were shipped to retailers and dealers in Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and Virginia.

As of 2.47 pm on Monday, August 29th, Irene has now been downgraded to a post-tropical storm, however rainfall warnings are still in effect for portions of Southern Quebec and wind warnings are still in effect for parts of the Northern Gulf of St. Lawrence. We have contacted shelters in Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in order to offer our help and assistance, however, we are happy to report that none of them reported to us any animal injuries due to Irene.
