Alternatives to the Use of Animals in Research are needed to replace the millions of animals killed each year in cruel and unnecessary laboratory experiments. Realistically animal experiments will continue for the foreseeable future. However, we need to come up with new solutions to old problems. Shielded from public scrutiny, accountability and laws, using tax dollars and donations, labs largely regulate themselves. New strides in technology and teaching methods allow researchers to obtain results by reducing or eliminating the use of animals. We also need to redouble our efforts to find alternatives including promoting better lifestyle choices and seriously crackdown on environmental polluters who diminish the quality of life for all of us.
