The Humane Society of Canada applauds the Government of Mexico's
decision to create a whale sanctuary within it's Exclusive Economic
Zone (EEZ). The 3 million km2 area
includes Mexican water in the Pacific & Atlantic Oceans and the
Caribbean Sea and will protect 21 species of whale, including Blue,
Right & Humpback whales, that inhabit these waters.

Many Canadians will soon
be heading south to escape the snow and cold, and with a little help
they can be Green Tourists according to Michael O’Sullivan, Executive
Director of the Humane Society of Canada (HSC). "Well-meaning but
uninformed tourists often leave their mark on these distant
environmentally-sensitive lands. When it comes to visiting wilderness
areas, the idea of taking only photographs and leaving only footprints
helps local people, wildlife and the environment."

The US National Marine Fisheries Service has just announced that they
will not be granting permits to Japanese aquaria who sought to live
capture wild Sea Otters for public display.
We worked alongside many others to ensure that the otters remained living in the wild where they belong.
