Bullfight Stopped Print E-mail
Friday, 13 October 2006

"When we first heard about a Portuguese-style bullfight, we sent a strongly worded letter to the Molson Centre in Montreal reminding them that the Criminal Code protects animals from cruelty," said Michael O'Sullivan, HSC Executive Director. The letter accompanied by a flood of public protest resulted in the cancellation of the event within 24 hours. The organizers have threatened to sue the Molson Centre. However, The Humane Society of Canada has offered to provide expert testimony that this type of bullfighting inflicts torture on animals even though the organizers argue it is less cruel than the traditional Spanish style bullfights.
